Whitechapel Holiday Cottages, North Devon
Dogs more than welcome!

As dog owners ourselves we understand how hard it is to find great places to stay that also welcome dogs. After many years of offering high quality accommodation we have come up with a set of reasonable requests for you to follow and help you, your pets and other guests have an enjoyable stay.

Families have been bringing their pets on holiday to Whitechapel for nearly thirty five years. The cost of bringing your pet on holiday has actually just been reduced from £15 to just £10 per pet. Maximum of two (well behaved) per cottage- We do ask your help in following the guidelines below so we can carry on offering great dog-friendly holidays to others ...

  • When you first arrive we strongly recommend that you keep your dog(s) on the lead while you get your bearings and get to know the site.
  • Around the cottages, gardens and play area we ask that your dog is on a lead. This is for the sake of our younger visitors and the chickens, ducks and bunnies, this may mean keeping it on the lead when you first set out for your walk.
  • There is a field available for dogs to run, poo and pee in only a few yards away so, please - not on the lawns.
  • You must let us know in advance if you’re bringing more dogs than stated on your booking form. Any additional dogs arriving without prior notice will be charged for at £30 per dog.
  • Please do not leave your dog(s) alone with free run of the property. Feel free to use a crate or borrow one from us or....
  • Feel free to use the kennel and run provided.
  • Dogs are not allowed in the games barn or health suite
  • As we have a dog ourselves, dog sitting and walking can be arranged.
  • Please bring towels and beds to make them feel at home and keep mess and smells to a minimum.
  • Do not allow dogs on beds or on the sofas.
  • Puppies!?  If you have a puppy - again please bring a crate or cage with you - we really don’t want them to chew the furniture or soft furnishings - the cottages have been recently refurbished and decorated. As maintaining our grading is very important to us, we can’t always just repair damage - more often than not it has to be replaced - at your expense!
  • Please thoroughly clean the cottage, including dog hair from rugs, before you leave. If properties require excessive cleaning we will impose an additional £50 fee to cover the cost of additional cleaning time.
  • Please try and discourage your dog from eating or chasing the deer and pheasants
(hmmm ... squirrels are fair game though!)
  • Remember to take plenty of fresh water with you on days out. Some of the quieter beaches do not have facilities that allow you to fill a bottle.
You have nearly 500 acres of woodland and open fields and a few miles of private lanes and tracks to discover. There is no livestock on our land except guest's dogs, horses, some chickens, a rabbit and the normal wildlife. We have changed the way we manage the land so that we don't need it to be grazed by cattle and sheep which makes it ideal for our guests and their dogs. However, please be aware that there is often livestock in neighbouring fields though of which we have no control.
